Burkina Faso’s iconic Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou officially reopened on August 4, 2025, after nearly four years of closure  and a comprehensive renovation effort led by President Ibrahim Traoré and the Burkinabe government. The stadium, previously stripped of its international certification due to deteriorating conditions, has now been upgraded to meet the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) stringent standards, earning official CAF reaccreditation as a Category III facility.

The grand reopening ceremony drew thousands of Burkinabe citizens and featured Cameroonian football legends Samuel Eto’o and Rigobert Song joining President Traoré, symbolizing a powerful moment of national pride and unity. The celebration included a memorable football match featuring the country’s soldiers against a team of African retired football stars, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
