Amichi, Anambra State – Residents of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State were thrown into shock on Friday, May 16, 2025, after the body of a yet-to-be-identified man was found hanging from a mango tree in a bush.

According to reports the discovery was made after an anonymous caller, believed to have used the deceased’s phone, alerted the police to the scene. Law enforcement officers from the Anambra State Police Command quickly responded, securing the area and removing the body, which has since been deposited at a local morgue.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement and said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. “We are working to identify the deceased and have contacted his family. The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain if this was a case of suicide or if foul play was involved,” he stated.

This incident comes just weeks after a similar case in which a pregnant woman’s body was found in a forest in Ideani, Idemili South Local Government Area. The police have expressed concern over the recent spate of such discoveries and assured the public that they are intensifying surveillance and intelligence gathering in affected areas.

Authorities are urging anyone with useful information to come forward as they work to unravel the mystery and prevent further occurrences.
