10 Features of FECA Nigeria Conventions (What to Expect)
Conventions are events that mark the gathering of a large number of people who share the same faith, belief, or goal. From the dictionary, a convention means “a large meeting of the members of a profession, a political party, etc.” It is synonymous with the word conference. Over the years, there have been many conventions in FECA Nigeria. I joined FECA in 2014, but the fellowship started in the 1990s, so there have been a lot of conventions in the past. You can see some of them documented on FECA’s official channels such as:
- Official Website: https://fecanigeria.org/
- Facebook Page (National): FECA Nigeria (FECANigeriaPR)
In this article, I will be talking about the features of FECA Nigeria conventions, under the following headings (and more):
- Intimate Worship
- School of the Spirit
- Seasoned Teachings
- Strategic Breakthrough Sessions
- Freshers Celebration
- FECAFOSM Session
- Eccentric Praise
- Heartfelt Prayers
- Drama, Dance, Songs, and Other Creative Ministrations (Variety Night)
- Elections and Announcement of New National Leaders for the Next Two Years
1. Intimate Worship
This is a feature of FECA Nigeria conventions that is also seen in many other Christian gatherings. Worship here entails lifting up holy hands in praise, singing hymns and spiritual songs, and making melodies to God. It is an indispensable aspect of every Christian gathering. At FECA conventions, worship is not just about singing; it is about communing in the presence of God. The atmosphere is charged with the presence of the Holy Spirit, and FECAites often experience deep encounters with God. Worship sessions are usually led by talented musicians and worship leaders who guide the body into a place of intimacy with the Lord.
2. School of the Spirit
The School of the Spirit is another feature of FECA Nigeria conventions. This is a school of prayer, where young, vibrant men and women gather to intercede for FECA and the nation. From my personal experience, it is a school that welcomes new members, and people are very happy to join because they know that when they come for the convention, they are there to pray and seek God’s face, not just to eat, sleep, or reunite with friends. The School of the Spirit gives participants the opportunity to pray so that when the Word is coming, they will have more insight. It is a place where spiritual discipline is cultivated, and participants learn the importance of intercession in the life of the body.
3. Seasoned Teachings
The teachers who come to FECA Nigeria National Conventions are not mere men; they are seasoned men and women of God. They are deeply rooted in the Word and can dissect it just as Paul says in Timothy: “...rightly dividing the word of truth.” Many of them are FOSM members, friends of FECA, some are former national leaders who have opened their own ministries, and some are pastors in other denominations. Examples include late Pastor Ezekiel Atang, Pastor Gift Esosa, Pastor David Ogbueli, and others who have ministered powerfully to the body over the years. Their teachings are not just informative; they are transformative, challenging participants to live lives of holiness, service, and obedience to God.
4. Strategic Breakthrough Sessions
FECA conventions are also marked by strategic breakthrough sessions, where participants are encouraged to seek God for specific areas of their lives. These sessions often focus on deliverance, healing, and restoration, and they provide a safe space for people to cry out to God for help. Breakthrough sessions are usually led by experienced ministers who guide participants through prayer, fasting, and confession, helping them to overcome strongholds and receive God’s grace. These sessions are a key feature of FECA conventions, as they help participants to experience spiritual breakthroughs that can last a lifetime.
5. Freshers Celebration
FECA conventions also include a Freshers Celebration, where new members are welcomed into the body. This is a time of fellowship, encouragement, and orientation, where freshers are introduced to the vision, mission, and values of FECA. The Freshers Celebration is not just about welcoming new members; it is about integrating them into the body. Freshers are encouraged to participate in activities, make friends, and get involved in the life of the fellowship. This feature helps to ensure that new members feel at home and are not left behind.
6. FECAFOSM Session
The FECAFOSM session is another important feature of FECA conventions. This session brings together friends of FECA who have supported the fellowship over the years. It is a time of appreciation, recognition, and encouragement, where these friends are thanked for their contributions to the body. The FECAFOSM session also provides an opportunity for networking and collaboration, as friends of FECA share their experiences and insights with the body. This feature helps to strengthen the relationship between FECA and its supporters, and it encourages continued partnership in the work of God.
7. Eccentric Praise
FECA conventions are known for their eccentric praise, where participants express their love for God in unique and creative ways. This can include dancing, clapping, shouting, and other forms of expression that are not always seen in regular church services. Eccentric praise is not about showmanship; it is about authentic worship. Participants are encouraged to let go of inhibitions and praise God with all their hearts. This feature helps to create an atmosphere of joy and freedom, where the Holy Spirit can move freely.
8. Heartfelt Prayers
FECA Prays is a central feature of FECA conventions. Heartfelt prayers are offered for the body, the nation, and the world. Participants are encouraged to pray for revival, unity, and peace, and they often experience deep encounters with God during these prayer sessions. Prayer sessions are usually led by experienced ministers who guide the body in intercession and supplication. These sessions are a key feature of FECA conventions, as they help participants to develop a strong prayer life and to rely on God for all their needs.
9. Drama, Dance, Songs, and Other Creative Ministrations (Variety Night)
FECA conventions also include a Variety Night, where participants showcase their talents in drama, dance, songs, and other creative ministrations. This is a time of entertainment and edification, where the body is encouraged to use their gifts to glorify God. Variety Night is not just about performance; it is about ministry. Participants are encouraged to use their talents to preach the gospel, teach, and encourage others. This feature helps to create an atmosphere of joy and celebration, where the body can relax and enjoy the presence of God.
10. Elections and Announcement of New National Leaders for the Next Two Years
Finally, FECA conventions include the election and announcement of new national leaders for the next two years. This is a key feature of the conventions, as it ensures that the body is led by capable and godly leaders. The election process is usually transparent and democratic, with participants voting for leaders who they believe will serve the body well. The announcement of new leaders is a time of celebration and anticipation, as the body looks forward to the new leadership taking charge.
Additional Features
In addition to the ten features listed above, FECA conventions also include:
- Leadership Retreats: These are sessions where leaders are trained and equipped for their roles.
