Nigeria has officially secured the hosting rights for the Second
Nigeria has officially secured the hosting rights for the Second African School Games that was scheduled for 2027, after besting strong contenders South Africa and Kenya in a competitive bidding process held in Algiers on August 5–6, 2025 .
The announcement came after Nigeria's performance at the inaugural African School Games in Algeria, where Team Nigeria concluded the event on August 5, 2025, with a haul of 25 medals: six gold, ten silver, and nine bronze across ten sports disciplines .
Nigeria’s Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olapade, celebrated the achievement and emphasized the nation’s preparedness to stage a successful continental sporting event encompassing thousands of student athletes and supervisors. Hosting the 2027 edition is expected to boost youth sports development and educational athletics across West Africa .
