Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke  departed Nigeria early August and flew to the United States aboard a private jet to attend the white wedding of his nephew, Afrobeat star Davido. Adeleke’s spokesperson confirmed that the trip began just days before August 5, 2025, addressing public concerns over his extended absence .

In a statement, the governor extended an open invitation to opposition figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC), inviting them to join the family celebration in person or virtually. He emphasised that he had not taken any official leave since taking office in November 2022 and assured that the trip would be brief and non-contentious .

Opposition figures, the APC, raised alarm over the governor's whereabouts describing the absence as unusual without a formal handover to the deputy governor. In response, his office explained the reason for his travel and reaffirmed commitments to state governance continuity during his absence .

This visit is notable not only for its familial dimension but also for its political symbolism, given Adeleke’s high profile as both a state governor and a prominent figure within the Adeleke family. In inviting political rivals, the governor positioned the event as inclusive and celebratory rather than divisive.
