Elon Musk has officially launched a new political party in the United States called the America Party, following a public and intense fallout with President Donald Trump.  Musk announced the formation on his social media platform X, stating the party aims to "give back your freedom" and challenge what he calls the entrenched "one-party system" dominated by Republicans and Democrats for over two centuries.

This move comes after Musk strongly criticized Trump's OBBBA law  dubbed the "Big Beautiful Bill," which Musk argues will bankrupt the country by adding trillions to the national debt. Despite having been Trump's largest campaign donor in 2024 and leading a government efficiency initiative under his administration, Musk broke with Trump over this legislation, accusing the Republican agenda of "debt slavery" and wasteful spending.

Musk's America Party plans to focus on winning a small but pivotal number of seats in the 2026 midterm elections—targeting "2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts"—to influence legislation and represent what he calls the "80% in the middle" of the political spectrum. The party is intended to be fiscally conservative and independent, engaging with both major parties but standing against what Musk sees as excessive government waste and graft.

While the party's official registration status with election authorities remains unclear, Musk's announcement followed a poll he conducted on July 4, where about two-thirds of over a million respondents supported the creation of a new political party to break the two-party dominance.

The feud between Musk and Trump has escalated recently, with Trump threatening to reconsider federal subsidies to Musk's companies and criticizing Musk's political moves. Musk's formation of the political party called, America Party, marks a significant development in US politics, as it challenges the long-standing two-party system and signals a new political force aiming to reshape the landscape ahead of the 2026 elections.
