One of the most shocking and little-known stories from history is that of Witold Pilecki, a Polish resistance fighter whose courage defies belief. In 1940, when rumors of atrocities at Auschwitz began to surface, Pilecki did the unthinkable: he volunteered to be arrested and sent to the infamous Nazi concentration camp so he could gather intelligence and organize resistance from within.

According to Ward Hazell, inside Auschwitz, Pilecki secretly built a network of prisoners, documented the horrors occurring there, and managed to smuggle out detailed reports using a homemade radio transmitter assembled from smuggled parts.
