Marriage Foundations Laid in Two Ways (You'll Like the Second)

"And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock." — Matthew 7:25

Marriage must stand on the rock of God's Word and love to endure. Lay foundations intentionally in two ways:

    1. Prepare Yourself First

Understand marriage deeply. Discover yourself: character traits, habits (helpful or harmful)—work on them. Know your career (lawyer, doctor, nurse, businessperson, politician, pastor, etc.).

A spouse can build up or demolish your profession. For compatibility, know who you are before choosing who they should be. You can elevate their career, but character change requires their willingness.

    2. Build a Healthy Pre-Marital Relationship

During dating/courtship, discover interests, likes/dislikes, and habits for lifelong marriage. This attracts God's blessings—but only after personal preparation.

Three keys to know your spouse:

    • Their character

    • Their professional potential

    • Their view of marriage (their perspective shapes expectations and lifespan)

    Some see marriage as:

    • Men: Just sex

    • Women: Just money/provision

    • Men: Wives as child-bearers/housekeepers

    • Women: Way to gain property

Their marriage view = their future expectations. That's why knowing your spouse builds the strongest foundation.
