A group of prominent U.S. Congress members, led by freshman Representative Brandon Gill, is introducing legislation aimed at honoring President Donald Trump by featuring his image on the $100 bill. This proposal is set to take effect in 2029, pending approval. The lawmakers argue that Trump's contributions to the country justify this recognition, suggesting that his achievements are significant enough to warrant comparison to Benjamin Franklin, the Founding Father currently featured on the $100 bill.
Gill and his supporters believe that replacing Franklin's image with Trump's would be a symbolic gesture to acknowledge Trump's impact on American history. They highlight Trump's efforts to secure U.S. borders, rectify global trade imbalances, restore energy independence, and prioritize American interests by reducing unnecessary foreign aid. These initiatives, they argue, demonstrate Trump's dedication to the nation and justify his inclusion on U.S. currency.
However, this proposal faces several challenges. Changing the faces of U.S. currency is a complex process that requires significant legal and bureaucratic adjustments. Current U.S. law prohibits living individuals from being depicted on currency, meaning that legislative changes would be necessary to allow Trump's image to appear on the $100 bill. Additionally, the proposal may not receive bipartisan support, which could hinder its passage.
This initiative is part of republican's efforts to solidify Trump's political efforts and legacy. It follows another proposal by Representative Joe Wilson to feature Trump on a new $250 bill, which has garnered support from several conservative members of the House. Despite these efforts, the practicality and feasibility of these changes remain uncertain.
