Dr. Edak Ezeanosike and the Birth of FECA

Dr. Edak Ezeanosike is a lecturer at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. She serves as a consultant ophthalmologist, ophthalmic plastic surgeon, and ocular oncologist at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. She attended Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, where she gave her life to Christ under the ministration of a young lady during the Moral Instruction period, typically scheduled one day a week (some schools held it on Wednesdays). That day ignited her passion for God and love for mankind.
Dr. Edak and her friends faced numerous challenges during their secondary school days. A prominent issue was the fading integrity and righteousness among their senior students who had left for tertiary education; many led wayward lives without shame. Young Edak, determined not to let this trend engulf them, rallied her friends with prayer and focused effort to seek God's face. The nine founders were:
- Edak Isangedighi
- Emem Ebiefie
- Emoefe Okupe
- Folashade Ogundeji
- Nse Williams
- Grace Abakasanga
- Mildfred Ephraim
- Funke Allen
- Patricia Babie
They stayed connected after graduation, despite scattering across Nigerian cities and states. They fellowshipped at each other's homes and exchanged letters, much like St. Paul wrote to the churches, to encourage faith in the Lord.
When selecting their first leadership team, they prayed fervently. Each wrote down an office and its holder, guided by the Holy Spirit, resulting in no repeated offices or names. Dr. Edak became FECA's first national president. She sacrificed immensely—more than many new-generation FECAites—as pioneering a venture demands greater costs than maintaining a mature one.
Key figures God brought early on included late Pastor Ezekiel Atang, Papa Deolu Ogunnubi, and others. These men attended national conventions, sharing inspiring stories of their labors. The 2014 national convention, themed "Exceeding Grace," highlighted this history. There, Pastor Ezekiel Atang recounted the early days, noting how the ladies appointed him spokesperson—a challenge he embraced, leading to his growth today.
